Meet Greg Wolf, the sole remaining crewmember—aside from Tremaine, Spike, Cliver and Kosick—who worked on the original jackass TV pilot in March 2000.

A former longstanding employee of Musicland, Wolf put in twelve hard years of his life at the mall-based chain store, where he absorbed scads of obscure music-based trivia like it was asbestos to his lungs. Consequently, he is now scarred for life as a walking, talking, and more often than not mumbling “Rain Man” of sorts when it comes to information about songs, artists, years, albums, sales rankings, etc.

This affliction does, of course, go hand in hand with his even more obscure musical tastes, making him one of the only people in the office—let alone possibly the whole world—that can boast owning the entire recording history of Shaun Cassidy and Barry Manilow on their iPod, not to mention a bounty of other esoteric artists, soundtracks, and musical scores from the ’60s and ’70s. Post-Musicland, Greg sought out a life in Hollywood and slipped into the jet stream of post-production labor. His first jobs were nothing too special—your standard entry-level positions on lackluster crap—but his career took a gradual up-tick when he landed a position on Wild Things, a short-lived TV show not to be confused with the campy Denise Richards flick of the same name, and he eventually—nay, fatefully, caromed into the earliest incarnation of jackass on the MTV pilot presentation in March 2000.

Hired on as the show’s Post-Production Supervisor, Wolf did just that, whatever that was. Rumors persist to this day that he drove himself to the hospital one night in the midst of a panic attack related to the delivery of the pilot, but alcohol has long since ravaged our collective brainpans and he now adamantly denies this episode ever took place (there was, however, the one night Wolf got drunk, slipped on his bathroom floor, and dislocated his shoulder, but we’ll save the finer details of that story for a more dignified moment).

It was a brief moment in time, this haphazard collision with the Dickhouse crowd, but he made it clear then and there at pilot’s end that if and when this project was picked up—and he had absolutely no doubt it would—he wanted to be involved. Sure enough, the moment jackass got the greenlight, Jeff Tremaine had Wolf up and running with the core crew a month before anyone else in the production sense was really hired on to do so, managing tapes and even manning the boom (as seen in the background of the “50 Egg Challenge”).

Since that time, Wolf has doggedly worked his way around the occupational ranks on the jackass television series and films, as well as all four seasons of Wildboyz, manhandling anything from clapping the slate to sync cameras in the field, noting all the best moments from the ensuing debacles, logging the footage back in the office, memorizing the entire Megatrax catalog of generic music cues…the list goes on and on.

Perhaps what he’s best at, though, is just being himself. Greg’s physical coordination is surprisingly suspect for a full-grown man of 40-plus years and, as such, provides non-stop entertainment on the road. For instance, on Wildboyz it was first discovered he cannot wink one eye at a time without extreme labor and concentration, and it was only on jackass number two he finally learned how to do handstands in a swimming pool (the term “learned” is used rather loosely here, albeit lovingly).

It’s also total comedy when he’s asked to perform what most would suspect to be an everyday task, like opening the window of a van, climbing a low wall, or holding a camera, because Greg still manages to find a way to make the act refreshingly magical and new.

Simply put, Wolfie never ceases to amaze and his dedication to the cause remains true and unwavering.
